Whether you realize it or not credit cards are one of the easiest ways to get stuck in a mountain of debt. Credit card companies have sold themselves to the American public as institutions that are here to benefit us. The fact that they also make money off of their services is just a side benefit that allows them to offer these services. This is one of the biggest lies ever told.
The credit card companies have only one purpose and that is to make money for themselves at the expense of the consumer. Unfortunately our society is now so entrenched in credit that it is almost impossible to survive without being in some kind of debt. Here are some things you need to know to .
Divide And Conquer
You can divide your minimum credit card payments in half and make two payments a couple of weeks apart rather then making one large payment at the end of the month. There are two major benefits to doing it this way. The first of course is that it is easier on your budget. Most people get paid twice a month and this will make it easier on you and your budget. The more important reason to make multiple payments rather than just one per month is that you are being charged interest on your balance every single day. So it should be your goal to reduce your balance as much and as often as you can.
Pay Off One Creditor
Do everything you can to pay off the card that has the smallest amount of debt before your other cards. So you would want to continue to make the minimum payments on all of your cards that have the largest debts and pick one card that has the smallest debt to work on the most. This is more of a psychological technique then anything else but it works. Getting that first card’s balance down to zero will give you the inspiration and belief that you can get out of this debt once and for all. Don’t forget to put any extra money that comes your way no matter how small towards this card’s debt. Every little bit helps as they say.
Don’t Make Things Worse
When you’re in a hole, you really need to stop digging. Some people try to get out of debt while still racking up more debt. I’m not a math wiz but that’s never going to work. You need to stop charging things on your cards until your debts are paid off. Oddly enough this seems to be the thing that most people have the hardest time with. Credit card debt is a serious matter. It takes a big commitment and a strong desire to change in order to pull this off. However other people have done it and improved their lives significantly and so can you.
To make sure you never end up in credit card debt again, never charge more than you can afford to pay back. It’s also a good idea to never end up with a high interest credit card. The best credit cards are the ones with no annual fees, low interest rates and a rewards program.
